performance details & guidelines!
Demos - Eligibility - Showcase Guidelines - Showcase running order etc..

DEMOS:-
Demos must contain three original songs and be clearly labelled with the contact details of the songwriter.

We strongly recommend that those interested in performing at a nsi event should attend the next such nsi event in order to experience the format and nature of the event from an audience perspective (and bring their demos with them).

Although we would prefer demos to be sent in audio CD format, bands/groups/ensembles/duos and solo performers are advised not to go to any unnecessary expense to provide demos bearing in mind it is the quality of the songs and the performance (not the quality of the recording) that will determine their eligibility to perform at a nsi singer / songwriter showcase concert and /or ensemble gig

e.g. demos of suitable material (appropriate to the aims of nsi) recorded in a kitchen on a portable cassette player will be considered on condition that all the vocals and instruments are clearly audible on playback.

n.b. songs submitted for inclusion on the nsi compilation CD must be sent in digital format preferably CD.

nsi singer / songwriter showcase concerts (performers guidelines)

  • - nsi involvement in the nsi showcase concerts and its relationship with the venue, artist and audience including all monies collected at the door -
  • nsi organises, publicises and supervises the showcase concerts because it believes (that in accordance with its constitution) they;
  • i. raise the profile of singer/songwriters and the art of songwriting in nottingham
  • ii. encourage and promote the live performance of original songs by the original songwriters
  • iii. provide a local platform for nottingham based singer/songwriters.

nsi invites singer/songwriters (including those not living in nottingham) to submit their recorded solo versions of their own songs so it can (in accordance with its constitution) retain the right to reject, exclude, and exempt nsi from any involvement with any artists or material it believes may be racist, sexist, homophobic, defamatory of any party or obscene.

solo performance can include instruments of any kind including percussion and keyboards. Sound samples may be used to create sounds but must be played - NO sequences and/or tapes may be included in the performance. artists selected to perform at nsi showcase concerts must (along with all who attend these events) be over eighteen years of age in accordance with the door policy of the venue and must agree to abide by the licencing laws and respect the rights and the wishes of the venues management.

artists selected to perform at nsi showcase concerts agree to help promote their performance and the event at which they will perform by distributing flyers and posters, word of mouth and contacting people on their mailing lists. Artists are invited to contribute a broadcast quality recording (performing solo) of one of their own songs, to help with promotion e.g. radio (preferably on a digital format)

showcase concerts

artists selected to perform at nsi showcase concerts agree to their performance being recorded for the benefit of nsi monitoring purposes only. copyright remains with the artist at all times and any further use such as inclusion on/distribution through an nsi compilation cd can only authorised in person by the artist themselves. nsi is a not-for-profit organisation and does not collect and/or deal with any monies from these events. nsi can suggest and/or elect an individual to collect an entry fee on behalf of the artists if they wish. this monies is then distributed fairly and evenly among the artists although a maximum of 10.00 may be offered to the the collector of the monies for his/her expense and/or inconvenience and in the absence of any other funding a maximum of 18.00 towards the cost of organising and/or publicising the event may be donated to nsi in order that the event may continue. it is understood that the monies distributed among the artists is to help them in some small way towards the expenses they have already accrued during processes integral to the pursuit of their craft for instance those involved in writing, composing, demotape recording, rehearsal, performance, related transport expenses, and the cost of upkeep of their instrument, and hopefully encouraging and allowing them to continue to perform their own material live. it is understood that all those in receipt of monies are responsible for their own tax payments, national insurance contributions and all other personal financial commitments. 3 may be donated by each performer towards the costs of entitling all singer / songwriters to free membership..
